Deep Oscillation Therapy on Long Island (HIVAMAT)
Gentle, Research-Backed Relief for Swelling, Pain & Sports Recovery
Last updated July 28, 2026
Deep oscillation therapy uses gentle electrostatic pulses — delivered through the FDA-cleared HIVAMAT device — to create a deep, pain-free pumping effect that moves swelling, fluid, and inflammation out of injured tissue through the lymphatic system. Unlike massage that presses into the body, deep oscillation lifts tissue — gentle enough to use before surgery to prepare tissue, and immediately after for post-surgical swelling, sensitive lymphedema, and recovering athletes. It’s one of the few treatments of its kind available on Long Island.
Developed to reduce pain and oedema, promote mobility, speed up wound healing, and improve scar formation, deep oscillation therapy is a great treatment option pre- and post-surgery. Clients describe this treatment as not only effective but relaxing and soothing. Deep oscillation therapy is beneficial to clients post-injury or trauma because instead of pushing into the body and compressing the tissues, this therapy allows a massage to occur while lifting the superficial tissues. As a result, the space in the interstitial fascial tissue expands which allows for a boost of circulation and lymphatic flow.
Not only does this therapy help athletes recover faster, but it helps anyone relieve pain, relax muscles, clear interstitial areas, and facilitate healing through the lymphatic system for all types of muscular micro-trauma injuries using targeted protocols. The HIVAMAT device is the only FDA-approved deep oscillation device and is backed by more than thirty years of clinical research and application.

With this state-of-the-art equipment, Marjorie can treat anyone with the need to reduce swelling, relieve soft tissue pain or recover faster from an injury.
Deep oscillation has become a go-to for young athletes recovering from sprains, overuse injuries, and post-game swelling. Because the treatment is completely gentle — no deep pressure, no needles, no downtime — it’s well suited to growing bodies that need to recover quickly without aggressive intervention. Marjorie treats children as young as five, provided they’re able to lie comfortably still for a session, and parents from across Nassau and Suffolk bring soccer, lacrosse, gymnastics, and baseball players in-season, often between weekend games.
What is Deep Oscillation Therapy
Deep oscillation therapy is based on pulsed electrostatic fields and pulsed electromagnetic energy to create a deep-penetrating pumping effect in the tissue receiving treatment. These low and completely safe electro pulses ˜knead’ the skin’s tissue by attracting and releasing it between 5-250 times a second.
The device provides gentle stimulation via the small conductive element that you hold. Marjorie will create a circuit between herself and you with an electrode. With hygienic, vinyl-gloved hands, Marjorie will be able to use scar massage while delivering oscillation treatment.
It is the only modality treatment that breaks up edema, fibrosis, and other cell debris; opens the lymphatic ducts; and drains interstitial tissue through the lymph system. HIVAMAT is a unique treatment option for early trauma, acute traumatic pain, post-exercise recovery, wounds, and hematoma and edema reduction. Plus, this therapy is gentle enough to be used pre- and post-surgery, even with implants.
What is Deep Oscillation Therapy Effective for?
Deep oscillation therapy is an effective overall pain management treatment as it alleviates pain by reallocating and flushing out pain-transmitting and mediating substances. Additionally, pain alleviation is further enhanced by the anti-inflammatory effects and oedema reduction.
Research supports deep oscillation therapy as an effective treatment for the following pathologies/injuries:
- Open wounds
- Burns
- Amputations
- Osteoarthritis
- Primary and secondary lymphodema
- Muscle tightness
- Swelling and scar tissue
- Sports injuries
- Cellulite
- General and surgical aftercare; laser resurfacing rehabilitation
- Respiratory inflammation
- Occupational injury and everyday conditions associated with pain and/or inflammation
HIVAMAT Deep Oscillation for Lymphedema
For over 22 years, this therapy has been used for the treatment of lymphedema, which is a condition similar to the acute swelling which occurs after surgical procedures, and soft tissue injuries. In both instances, fluid is not contained within the body’s lymphatic system and it leaches out into the interstitial tissue causing pain, swelling, areas of hardness, and fibrotic scar tissue.
The electrostatic field of attraction and friction creates deep but gentle oscillations in the treated tissue including skin, connective tissue, muscles, blood, and lymph vessels. The soft pulsating vibration breaks up the metabolic waste that formed in lymphatic collectors and the surrounding interstitial tissue as a result of injury or stress to the area.
By stimulating the movement of lymph out of congested tissue areas and through the lymphatic system, lymphedema, inflammation, and pain are reduced in the area being treated. When used post-surgery, this therapy quickly and effectively addresses these issues and dramatically speeds the recovery process. So long as the underlying trauma has not healed, the body continues to produce fluid. This treatment prevents fluid from building up and thereby speeds up the healing process.
Frequently Asked Questions about Deep Oscillation Therapy
What to Expect During Treatment
Marjorie (who will be connected to the machine via an electrode) will gently massage your target area allowing the pulsed oscillations to penetrate your skin to a depth of 8-12 cm through the skin, connective tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscle, blood, and lymph vessels. It is an extremely relaxing yet exceptionally effective treatment. It is completely safe and doesn’t hurt.
Does It Replace Other Forms of Therapy?
This type of therapy does not replace other forms of treatment such as lymphatic drainage massage but instead intensifies them, obtaining the most effective outcome for you.
Is this Therapy the Same as Tens or Ultrasound Therapies?
Deep oscillation is not the same as these therapies. It does not need heat or an electrical pulse, making it safe to use over implanted plates and pins.
How many treatments should I do?
As long as your underlying trauma or injury has not healed, deep oscillation therapy is extremely beneficial. If you continue to have swelling, tissue hardness, and limited movement, you can continue with this therapy.
Should I do deep oscillation therapy before surgery?
Yes — pre-surgical treatment is one of deep oscillation’s most overlooked uses. Preparing tissue before a procedure improves circulation and lymphatic flow in the surgical area, which supports healing from day one; afterward, treatment can begin far earlier than most therapies because it’s gentle enough for fresh post-operative tissue — even over implants, plates, and pins. Marjorie builds pre/post-surgery protocols for planned procedures like joint replacements, C-sections, and breast surgery.
How much does deep oscillation therapy cost?
Office sessions are $90 for 30 minutes and $175 for 60 minutes. Deep oscillation can be booked on its own or combined with lymphatic work or scar tissue release in the same session, depending on where you are in recovery. For planned surgeries, Marjorie can build a complete pre- and post-surgery protocol around your procedure date.
Where can I get deep oscillation therapy near me?
Deep oscillation is rare in the New York area — few practices on Long Island offer it. Marjorie Brook, LMT provides treatment at her office in Wantagh, central Nassau County, by appointment, with clients coming from across Long Island, Queens, and NYC. It’s frequently combined with lymphatic therapy and scar tissue release as part of a full recovery plan.
What Marjorie’s Clients Have Been Saying
I recently began treatment with Marjorie Brook upon the suggestion of my son who had researched Ms. Brook. I was experiencing some pain and limited mobility at the sites of my double knee replacement surgeries. With just a few sessions with Ms. Brook, through her incredible massage therapy, I have already begun to recover my flexibility and feel significant less pain. Marjorie Brook is a thorough professional, skilled in technique and completely knowledgeable in her field. I find her to be empathetic and genuinely concerned about my well-being. I highly recommend Marjorie and look forward to continuing my treatment with her!
I first came to Marjorie Brook in 2017. I was given a session with her as a gift from a friend. I was experiencing neck pain for about one year. I tried my chiropractor, advil, and purchased several pillows to no avail. I continued with Marjorie and shortly after a few visits my neck pain went away. Not only did she alleviate the problem, she taught me how to properly stretch my neck. What I appreciate the most about Marjorie is that she educates her patients with specific techniques to safely stretch and teach continued self care. She also provides her patients with a beautiful, clean and inviting environment.
Marjorie is absolutely amazing. I will not be able to put into words how incredible she is, and the abilities she has. I have visited her many times for stretching, and scar tissue therapy and I leave every time amazed at how I feel following her treatments. She is best in class, and I truly mean it.
I went to Marjorie knowing that I needed help to alleviate compensation from an old injury. We focused on therapeutic stretching. The stretching targeted my hips and legs. Within minutes tension subsided and areas began to open up. Days after my body is still readjusting itself because areas that were not worked on are sending signals. My back is relaxed and my pelvis is in a better position. I am amazed and so grateful. I feel so much better. I am looking forward to our next session. I would encourage everyone to just get the work for structural balancing. I have come to learn how old injuries can pull on the body and create bigger problems when not properly addressed. It impacts posture and gait in a way you won't know because you are so used to it. Thankfully I found the right person to help me.
Marjorie is amazing. She takes a truly wholistic approach to healing. She explains everything both in technical terms and in layman’s terms. She makes you feel in control of the session, insisting that you should stop her if anything feels too uncomfortable. Her work space was the cleanest of any health practitioner I’ve been to since COVID. After the first session I walked out with the least amount of pain in 13 years. YEARS! It came back, but healing is a process, and at least I know I have finally found someone who truly understands what my body has been through and how to optimize its function and ability going forward.
