Get Answers to Your Most Pressing Questions About Working with Marjorie Brook, LMT
Welcome. Choosing the right therapist is an important step, especially when you are dealing with scar tissue, pain, restricted movement, swelling, or changes in the way your body feels and functions. Marjorie’s goal is to create a calm, supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and cared for as a whole person — not just treated for a symptom.
Every body is different, which is why every session is personalized to your unique history, needs, and goals. Below are answers to some of the most common questions new clients have before beginning care with Marjorie at her practice in Wantagh, NY.
Why I Do Not Accept Insurance
There are multiple reasons why I do not accept insurance. My focus is on providing you with personalized, comprehensive care that truly addresses your unique needs — especially when it comes to specialized therapies like scar tissue release and fascial work. Insurance companies often impose strict limitations on treatment types, session lengths, and frequencies, which can hinder the customized approach necessary for effective healing.
Scar tissue and fascial restrictions are complex and require a multi-dimensional treatment method, such as the S.T.R.A.I.T Method™, which combines therapeutic modalities including fascial release, mind-body interactions, therapeutic stretching, and proprioceptive support tailored specifically for you. This individualized care often falls outside the constraints of typical insurance coverage.
By not accepting insurance, I maintain the freedom to:
- Devote the necessary time and attention each client deserves
- Utilize advanced, evidence-based techniques without compromise
- Customize treatment plans that focus on long-term results, not just symptom relief
- Provide thorough assessments and hands-on therapies essential for optimal recovery
Your healing journey is unique, and so is my commitment to supporting it without the restrictions insurance can impose. This ensures that every session is dedicated to helping you regain balance, function, and well-being.
To support your insurance reimbursement, a detailed superbill will be provided after each session, which you can submit directly to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. This approach prioritizes your health while giving you control over your care and insurance claims.
Thank you for understanding and trusting me to provide the highest quality care focused entirely on you.
How many sessions will I need?
Every person’s healing journey is unique, and so is the number of sessions needed to treat scar tissue and fascial restrictions effectively. Because scars and adhesions can vary widely in age, severity, location, and individual response, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to how many sessions you will need. Some scars may respond quickly, while others, especially older or more complex adhesions, may require more time and consistent work to restore optimal function and comfort.
My approach recognizes the individuality of each client, tailoring every treatment plan to your specific needs and goals. I assess the extent of scar tissue and adhesions, monitor your progress, and adjust the therapy accordingly to ensure the best outcomes. Starting treatment earlier can improve the odds of restoring a full range of motion and circulation. However, regardless of the stage, all scar tissue adhesions can be improved with dedicated care.
Your healing is a personalized process, and we are here to support you every step of the way with expert guidance and customized care.
How Soon Can I Start Therapy for My Scar?
The healing journey begins as soon as you’re ready. With our specialized post-surgery protocols, you can start therapy for your scar as soon as you feel up to an office visit — no need to wait for full recovery! Early intervention is key to optimizing scar healing and preventing long-term restrictions.
Scar tissue goes through different phases as it matures, and beginning gentle treatments during the early stages helps keep the tissue pliable and supports proper alignment. My approach incorporates deep oscillation, polarity therapy, light myofascial release, and lymphatic drainage during the initial 8-12 weeks post-injury, which gently reduces tension and promotes circulation without stressing the healing tissue.
Once your scar reaches the mature phase — typically 12 to 18 weeks after surgery—I use specialized techniques to safely break down adhesions, realign tissues, and restore a full range of motion. Starting therapy earlier improves your chances of regaining optimal function and minimizing discomfort.
Don’t let your scar hold you back. Contact us to learn about our tailored post-surgery protocols and begin your personalized scar therapy journey when you’re ready.
When Is a Scar Too Old to Receive Therapy?
Many people wonder if their scars become “too old” to benefit from therapeutic treatment. The good news is that scar tissue can be improved at any age! Whether your scar is just a few weeks old or several years—or even decades—there is potential for increased mobility, reduced pain, and improved function.
Why Start Scar Therapy?
Scar tissue, no matter how old, can restrict movement, cause discomfort, and affect your body’s overall balance. Over time, scars can create adhesions and alter the surrounding fascia, leading to pain and dysfunction in distant areas of the body. Working with scar tissue helps to break down these adhesions, realign collagen fibers, and restore proper tissue glide and flexibility.
Timing Matters, But It’s Never Too Late
The S.T.R.A.I.T Method™ advises initiating therapy ideally once the scar is mature — typically around 12 to 18 weeks after the injury or surgery — when the scar tissue matrix has set but remains pliable enough for remodeling. Early intervention during the immature phase (first 8-12 weeks) with gentle techniques like myofascial release and lymphatic drainage helps keep the tissue pliable and prevent excessive scarring.
However, even scars that are older than a year or many years old can still be effectively treated. While mature scars require more focused, stronger manual therapy combined with movement and proprioceptive re-education to break down dense adhesions, improvement is always possible. The key is patience and skilled application of appropriate techniques.
What You Can Expect
With the right treatment approach, you can experience:
- Increased range of motion and flexibility
- Decreased pain and nerve sensitivity
- Improved circulation and tissue health
- Better overall function and body mechanics
Don’t let the age of your scar discourage you! Therapy can help you regain comfort and mobility, no matter how long ago your injury occurred.
During a Scar Tissue Release session, you experience a specialized, multi-dimensional therapeutic approach designed to restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve overall function by addressing the complex matrix of scar tissue and fascial adhesions in your body.
Here’s what happens during the session:
- Comprehensive Assessment: Your therapist begins by taking a detailed medical history and performing a structural assessment, including posture analysis and palpation of fascial relationships, to identify the extent and impact of scar tissue and adhesions beyond just the visible scar.
- Targeted Fascial Release: Using specialized techniques such as linear strokes following the scar line, “S” ing, spiraling, and sectioning, the therapist gently separates and realigns adhered tissues layer by layer. This process breaks down collagenous cross-links and restores tissue glide and elasticity, focusing on palpable extensions of the scar, not just the surface.
- Careful Pressure Application: The pressure applied is slow, steady, and progressive—starting light during the early (immature) scar phase to avoid re-injury, and becoming more direct as the scar matures. This encourages remodeling of the scar matrix along natural movement lines, promoting healthier, functional tissue rather than chaotic fibrosis.
- Pain and Sensory Awareness: As scar tissue contains nerve endings that may be hypersensitive, the work can be uncomfortable or painful. Your therapist proceeds with caution to minimize discomfort while effectively releasing restrictions.
- Neuromuscular Re-education: Since your body may have adapted to movement limitations caused by scar tissue, the session often includes guidance on therapeutic stretching, strengthening, and proprioceptive taping to retrain your muscles and nervous system for improved movement and improved circulation and function.
- Improved Circulation and Function: The release enhances circulation, lymphatic flow, and communication within the fascial network, helping reduce swelling, improve temperature regulation, and restore joint movement.
Every session is tailored to your unique needs, recognizing that scar tissue can affect your body systemically, not just locally. By addressing both the mechanical and neurological aspects of scars, this therapy aims to break the cycle of dysfunction and support lasting healing and balance.
Experience a transformative approach that treats the root cause of your discomfort and movement restrictions, helping you regain freedom and vitality.

What Marjorie’s Clients Have Been Saying
I cannot recommend Marjorie Brooke, LMT, enough. After my C-section, I was struggling with significant pain and discomfort, and her care truly made a difference in my recovery. Marjorie is incredibly knowledgeable, gentle, and attentive — she took the time to understand exactly what I was experiencing and worked with such skill and compassion.
After just a few sessions, I noticed real improvement in my pain, mobility, and overall comfort. She created a safe, calming environment and always made me feel heard and cared for. Her work has been an important part of my healing journey, and I am so grateful to have found her.
If you are recovering from a C-section and looking for someone experienced, professional, and truly dedicated to helping you heal, Marjorie Brooke is exceptional.
What a beautiful soul! Marjorie is extremely attentive and explains each of touches/stretches. The patient comes first:) Would highly recommend her to anyone frustrated with conventional pain treatments. Since starting, my feet feel more connected to the ground and my legs feel longer. I wasn't aware how super tight I was. Also noticed less pain to other body parts that haven't been directly addressed.
I am so fortunate to have met Marjorie .
She is helping me heal after wks of physical therapy from a knee replacement. I walk out of there feeling hopeful that one day I will be feeling good again. Her massages are so professionally done and yes...enjoyable
I was referred to Marjorie after emergency surgery for colon cancer at age 38, which left me with a five inch scar from my belly button down. When I first came to her, I was really struggling. I had a lot of fluid buildup and pulling around the scar, my range of motion was incredibly limited, and my stomach felt tight and distorted.
From the very first session, I felt a major difference. The fluid retention around my stomach improved almost immediately, and with each visit things continued to get better. Over time, my scar softened and faded, the lumpiness reduced almost completely, and my mobility came back. My body no longer feels stuck or restricted in the way it did before.
I am so grateful I found Marjorie. Working with her has been a huge part of my healing, and I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone recovering from surgery or dealing with scar tissue issues.
